Reflection: My Online Teaching Experience during the Covid-19 pandemic

COVID-19 pandemic was a very difficult period for all of us. During that period, it was a sudden switch from on-site learning to online learning. As a Special Educator, it was a very challenging period for me. Students and Teachers both were trying to adjust to this new normal. I decided to enroll for a certificate program

For example, using National Geographic's resources, educators can teach with the help of real-life examples to help children with special needs grasp concepts like geography, science, and biology. By connecting lessons to concrete, visually compelling examples from nature, educators can create a more engaging learning experience for these children.

As a special educator, reflecting on how to incorporate real life examples and hands-on experiences from National Geographic's Capstone Project can enhance the learning process for children with special needs, making complex concepts more accessible and meaningful for them. It's important to consider their individual learning styles, strengths, and needs, and to tailor the approach accordingly to create an inclusive and enriching learning environment.

The National Geographic Educator Certification process has changed me as an Educator in many ways. It has taught me that environmental studies are not limited to geography, it can be integrated with other subjects too. Nature can be blended and taught in many ways. It need not be only a field visit to botany park for younger grade students, but it can be taught beyond that. I also learned that Nature when included in our teaching-learning process can develop a caring attitude towards the environment and a great way to teach empathy and responsibility. The National Geographic Learning Framework has taught me that empathy is not content-specific but can be used in everything we teach. It has also given me the opportunity to learn from other educators across the globe. Going through sample Exemplary Capstones, gave me a lot of insight into teaching students in concrete way and the application of the classroom learned content in real life. I am sharing my National Geographic Capstone Project. The session was conducted online during pandemic in the year 2020.
